If you know there is a place you can always go and be comforted, won’t you go there all the time?
I am here to tell you there is such a place found in the word of God. Psalm 119:50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. One would ask where to turn in a time like this when there is so much uncertainty and unpredictability. Friends, we can put our faith in God’s word.
Psalms 119:49 Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. 50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. When we remember the promises of the Lord, it brings comfort.
You might ask, how does the word give me comfort? Let me give you an example; a few years ago, I was going through a rough time; during my prayer time, I told the Lord I didn’t know when this trouble would be over since I was born it is one problem to the other and I am tired of it Lord, and I was sobbing. Down deep my soul I heard the Lord said to me read Psalm 129, here are the first couple of verses “Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say: 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me. God told me to put my name where Israel is, and I did; instantly, that word became Rhema to me. I was quicken. All my tears went away; I praised God for speaking to me and comforting me with his word.
I love the message translation Psalm 119:49-50 (MSG) 49-50 Remember what you said to me, your servant— I hang on to these words for dear life! These words hold me up in bad times; yes, your promises rejuvenate me.
That psalm has stayed with me over the years, comforting and encouraging me still.
The bible says, in Psalm 107:20, He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. The word of God has the power to heal our deepest wound or hurt.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
When I am down or confused, the word of God has the power to dissect my feelings, thought, and emotions from the real me and bring out the will of God—giving me peace and comfort.
